Find what fits your home

Start with what the child enjoys doing and the space you have at home. Here are five things to check when comparing models or choosing a gift.

1. Start with the activity

Are you planning a space for pretend cooking, drawing or storing books? Choose a category that suits the activity. Then compare work surfaces, seating, compartments or included parts.

2. Measure the space around the product too

Check the product's width, depth and height. Package dimensions refer to the packaging and do not tell you the size of the assembled product.

Then measure the space at home. Allow room for a chair to be pulled out, a door to be opened or the product to be used. Follow the model's requirements for positioning and clear space.

For a folding model, you need the dimensions both when it is in use and when it is stored. If an essential measurement is missing, ask us to check it before you order.

3. Compare what is included

You may find it helpful to write down what comes with each model. Are chairs, play utensils or storage boxes included? Does anything need to be bought separately? Photos may show props, so use the stated contents list when comparing.

Read the material information for the relevant parts. A wood-coloured surface does not identify a wood species, and an MDF panel should be compared as MDF.

4. Read the model's information on use

Check the stated age, intended use, any load limits and instructions for the specific model. Information about a similar product does not automatically apply. Follow the assembly and positioning instructions, including any anchoring requirements.

5. Plan for delivery

Is the product a gift for a particular date? Check the current delivery information and shipping policy. The time until dispatch and the time until the parcel reaches the recipient are different things.

Consider checking dimensions, use and the desired contents with someone who knows the child's everyday life. Read the returns policy too, including how to make a return and what it costs.
